Illegal U-Turn Results In DUI Charge For Stamford Man In Greenwich

A man from Stamford was driving under the influence when he made an illegal U-turn, Greenwich Police said.

Joao Winston Cerna-Acevedo, 27, was allegedly observed traveling south on Valley Road Thursday, Jan. 24 after 2 a.m. when he failed to obey a stop sign and made an illegal U-turn. Further police investigation revealed that Cerna-Acevedo was under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

Cerna-Acevedo was asked to perform a series of field sobriety tests, which he did not pass. He was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Third-degree operation of a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs
  • Improper turn/stop - no signal
  • Failure to obey stop sign

Cerna-Acevedo is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on Thursday, Feb. 7.
